Development of Industry’s First Reflective HTPS TFT Liquid crystal Panels by Seiko Epson

Seiko Epson has made an announcement on release of world’s first reflective high temperature polysilicon (HTPS) TFT liquid crystal panels for 3LCD projectors. The new display panel supports full HD contents and it measures only 0.74 inches on the diagonal. The new panels fuse the reflective display technology with the HTPS technology, providing a device level contrast ratio of 100,000:1 or higher, and ability of providing natural looking images and rich gradations.
The main structural difference between the new panel and the conventional type is that the new panels’ reflective electrode instead of a transparent electrode on the TFT substrate. The C2 Fine technology responsible for high contrast ratio in transmissive HTPS panels has been optimized for the new reflective panels. Furthermore, Epson’s unique planarization technology has been used in order to make the reflective layer almost flat for controlling the scattering of light. Seiko Epson has already begun volume production of the new Panels.

Toyota Motor to Install Vehicle Audible System for Prius

While majority of consumers expressing their interest for purchasing hybrid or electric vehicles (EV) for their fuel efficiency as well as their environmentally friendly features, one major issue in using such vehicles are their near silent operating engine, to such a level that a committee has been assigned to assess possible countermeasures back in July of last year. The silent operation does not only concern people with hearing or vision disabilities or such, it is a concern that has been raised by everyone. Based on these findings, Toyota Motor Company has incorporated an audible system for Prius, designed to alert pedestrians as well as others audibly to the presence of a quiet vehicle, such as hybrid cars.
The onboard device will automatically emits a synthesized sound of an electric motor when the Prius is functioning in electric mode at speed of up to 25 km/h. The aim in creating the sound is to simply alert not to annoy the individuals through rises and falls in pitch that is relative to vehicle’s speed, indicating to the pedestrian vehicle’s proximity and movement. In Japan major metropolitan cities where the noise pollution is a norm due to is congested nature, the silent vehicle may need to raise their voice before being accepted by general population.

Release of New 60V Large Screen Touch Panel by SHARP

Sharp unveiled a new LCD touch panel combining sharp’s UV2A and LED backlight technologies, capable of displaying video as well as still images. The user can use the accompanying pen to right characters and other type of figures on the screen, making the display to perform as a white board for presentation purposes during business meetings and lectures. Furthermore, all the entered as well as displayed data can be save and later printed out, making it an ideal feature for distributing and creating meeting minutes.
The PN-L601B features low power consumption, given the large size screen and its multitude of functionality. The new PN-L601B display will be released into the market by August 31, 2010, with planned monthly production of 500 units. There is no suggested retail price on the PN-L601B as of yet.

CANON Unveils its Newly 120 Megapixels CMOS Image Sensor

Canon today announced the successful development of its APS-H-size (approx. 29.2 x 20.2mm) CMOS image sensor capable of delivering an image resolution of 120 megapixels (13,280 x 9,184 pixels), making it industry’s highest level resolution for this class of CMOS sensors. The new sensor beats Canon own highest-resolution CMOS sensors of the same size which has capability of 16.1 million pixels, by 7.5 times, offering a 2.4-fold improvement in resolution. The high resolution capability was achieved through modification of the method that is employed in controlling the readout circuit timing, making it possible to achieve a maximum output speed of approximately 9.5 frames per second, supporting the continuous shooting of ultra-high-resolution images.
The new sensor also incorporates a full HD (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) video output capability from approximately one-sixtieth-sized section of its total surface area. Furthermore, the new sensor is capable of image confirmation across a wide image area, with it Full-HD video viewing of a selected portion of the overall frame.

Development of a Hybrid Transmission Technology Capable of Transmitting Data and Power via a Single Cable by SONY

Sony has made an announcement today on development of a “single wire interface technology” facilitating transmission of both internal data as well as power supply with a single cable that will result in improved design flexibility and reliability with mobile devices with movable mechanisms, through streamlining internal wiring of a mobile devices via single cable (copper wire). Up to now, the video, audio and control signals as well as the power transmission is done over several dozen cables such as hinges or rotating parts, not to mention the multitude of extra wiring to accommodate today’s full featured mobile devices with high resolution displays.
Sony’s new technology is capable of bi-directional transmission of several types of signals including video, audio as well as control signals through use of time division duplex and multiplex. Additionally, the DC power is supplied on the same signal cable. Sony’s unique encoding technology with DC balance is capable of transmitting both DC power supply and high speed data within a limited frequency bandwidth. To achieve a practical implementation of this new technology, Sony has teamed up with ROHM Co., Ltd for the joint development and technical validation for the analog portion of the test chip, where Sony will grant ROHM a license for IP of digital portion of this new technology, for development of a single chip that includes both the analog and digital portions

Release of Industry First LED Ceiling Lights for Home Lighting by SHARP

Sharp has introduced six new models of LED Ceiling lights into the Japanese market. The new lights are industry first LED ceiling lights, using company’s proprietary diffusion technology. Featuring a thin design that bears only 43 mm at its thickest part at just 8 mm at its thinnest, The new lights comes with adjustable color functions and dimmer function, combine for a total of 110 different levels of color and brightness.
The new lights comes with Eco functions allowing energy savings of up to 65%, these are the Eco Light Rhythm (DL-C501V/C301V/C302V models),Eco Dimmer function and Eco Sensor function (on all 6 models). Lumen flux ranges from 2350 to 5100 lumens depending on the model. The new lights will hit the Japanese market by September 17th, 2010, with estimated monthly production of 5,000 units. No pricing has been set for these new LED lights as of yet.

Release of New FinePix REAL 3D W3 by FUJIFILM

Following the release of FinePix REAL 3D System back in July of last year, as world’s first high-quality 3D imaging system not requiring any special glasses to view the 3D images, Fujifilm introduces yet another model of 3D digital camera within its FinePix product line-up. The new FinePix REAL 3D W3 comes with advance 3D modes for interval 3D shooting as well as Parallax Control, a 3D Tuning function, where the camera can automatically adjusts parallax in 3D Auto mode for an optimal sense of depth. The new camera bears the same number of pixels (10 megapixels) as the previous model as well as 1/2.3-inch CCD x2.
Furthermore, the new camera comes with 34MB internal memory and compatible with SD/SDHC memory card. It comes with Fujinon 3X optical zoom lens, F3.7 (Wide)-F4.2 (Telephoto). Oh, yes, the camera will allow it users to view pictures in 3D on its specially designed built-in display and also be printed on specially manufactured 3D paper. The new camera also incorporates the HD 3D video camera to capture 3D movies, where it can be viewed on any 3D TVs. The Fujifilm also provide 3D printing services soon after the release of the camera.
