The HTC Rhyme

The HTC Rhyme is something of a delicate matter, as it is HTC's firstphone that is said to have been designed with a female audience in mind. Yet it comes in dull colours and looks quite a lot like every other HTC handset we’ve seen so far.

Twitter Touts 100 Million Active Members

At a press event as of recent, Twitter CEO Dick Costolo revealed that Twitter now has 100 million active members. The company defines an active member as someone who logs in once a month – half of these active users log in everyday. Forty percent of the active users don’t tweet, but the site still gets around five billion tweets every five days.
The site grew an astounding 82% since just this January, and it aims to double the number of active users in the next four months. Most of the growth seems to be in the mobile space, though — 55% of the active users tweet from mobile devices. Twitter‘s growth is undeniable, but its creators never really disclosed numbers prior to this, so you have to ask why. And like any other rapidly growing company, Twitter rattled out numbers to assure investors that its new advertising schemes will work out.
One of Twitter’s major advertisement push is promoted tweets. Unlike before when you only see promoted tweets of companies you follow, you’ll apparently start seeing promoted Tweets of other companies not in your list. It might sound annoying for some, but hey – at least the service remains free. Aside from these official numbers for business, Twitter also came up with some fun facts and numbers. For example, did you know that two-thirds of the NBA has Twitter accounts? Make sure to check out the Twitter blog for more!

Twitter web overhaul borrows cues from iPad app

Twitter tonight held a special event to give an early look at the new Twitter. The new page draws directly from the design of the iPad app and makes content show automatically in a second pane rather than popping out a new window. Photo hosts like Flickr, TwitPic and Yfrog, as well as video hosts like Ustream and YouTube, will have their content embedded in a format that's more helpful both to computers and to tablets like the iPad.
Profiles also get short expansions in the secondary pane, as do things related to a given update, such as map data when a location is attached. Frequent readers now have access to an "infinite" scroll that will load older updates on the spot rather than require a click to queue them up. Many of the categories that had controls on the right, such as @ replies and direct messages, have been moved to above the timeline to keep the sections clean.

The refreshed Twitter page is going live tonight as part of a small, controlled preview that should expand over several weeks until every user has the new page.
