Cellular South Announces The Samsung Admire With Android 2.3

We had been expecting MetroPCS to announce the Samsung Admire given we saw those leaked in the wild style images hit the web a short while back, however it looks like Cellular South has beaten them to the punch and officially announced the handset.

The details have come by way of the recently added “Introducing the Samsung Admire” page on the Cellular South website. Sadly though, that bit comes with some good news and some disappointing news.
First, the good — this is not a rumor or speculation and we know the handset is coming. Second, the disappointing — Cellular South has yet to offer up anything in terms of when the Admire will be available or how much they will be selling it for. At this time there is the overview of the handset with some basic specs and a place where you can trade some personal information for the privilege of being “among the first to find out when the Samsung Admire is available.”
Moving on though, judging from what we have seen, it looks like the Admire is going to be a mid-range device with a fairly reasonable price tag. Some of the specs include a 3.5 inch HVGA touchscreen display, 3.2 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3.5 mm headphone jack and a microSD card slot for your storage needs. And on a positive note, the Admire will be arriving with Android 2.3 Gingerbread as well as all the Google goodies including the Android Market.
All said and done, assuming a fair price, the Samsung Admire could be a nice device. Lastly, while we are waiting for more information from Cellular South

Samsung I9250 (Google Nexus Prime?) Ice Cream Sandwich Phone & New 7-inch Galaxy Tab Leaked

Recently we heard that the Google Nexus 3 (also dubbed as the Nexus Prime) may be hurried out to fight the upcoming iPhone 5, but there’s still no telling who will make it. We’re looking at the same candidates, Samsung, HTC, Motorola and LG, and it will be interesting to see whether Google will select a former Nexus smartphone maker (Samsung or HTC) or whether it will go with a totally new company (Motorola or LG).

Today we get to look at a rumored roadmap for a bunch of new Samsung Android devices, which includes at least a smartphone and a tablet you should be keeping your eyes on, a potential Samsung Nexus Prime candidate and the second-generation 7-inch Galaxy Tab Honeycomb tablet.

The Samsung GT-I9250 (W48) is said to sport a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED display (bigger than what’s currently available out there), 1,280 x 720 resolution, 5-megapixel camera and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) on board. The first Android smartphone to run ICS is expected to be the Nexus 3, so this device may just be the new Google Nexus handset we’re waiting for.

As for the second 7-inch Galaxy Tab 3G + Wi-Fi / Wi-Fi, codenamed P6200 (W44) / P6210 (W44), the word on the street is that the device will come with a 7-inch Super AMOLED display, 1,024 x 600 resolution, HSDPA support (for the 3G model), Wi-Fi, 3-megapixel camera, 2-megapixel front-facing camera and Android Honeycomb conveniently running in the background.

On top of these devices Samsung will have quite a few other Android, Bada and Windows Phone handsets in stores soon, and, as expected, they’ll match your desires and, more importantly, the size of your wallet:

As you can see, Samsung seems to have quite a few handsets scheduled to be launched at some point in the near future. And we’ll note that the 4.65-inch Nexus Prime candidate doesn’t appear to be the best of them yet, considering the specs and features we’ve seen today on some of its brethren. devices.

Samsung Nexus Prime to be Announced at October 11 Unpacked Event?

samsung has announced a new Unpacked mobile event, the kind of press event we’ve seen before at MWC, CTIA or IFA this year, and considering that the company has announced its flagship smartphones and tablets for 2011 already what could follow next other than the next Google Nexus handset, also known as the Nexus Prime, Galaxy Nexus or Droid Prime?

The media even is scheduled for October 11, on the first of CTIA’s next event that will take place in San Diego during October 11-13.

Since we’re looking at an upcoming Unpacked event we’re almost sure we’re talking about an important product launch. The similar MWC event brought us the Galaxy S II and the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in February, the one at CTIA in March unveiled the new Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the Galaxy Tab 8.9 while the most recent one, held at IFA was used by the company to launch the Galaxy Note and the Galaxy Tab 7.7.

The Nexus Prime has been long rumored to be manufactured by the South Korean company and in time any doubts regarding the maker of the next Nexus phone have disappeared with Samsung inadvertently confirming the device a bunch of times.

However the phone is not official yet, and it definitely deserves a proper media event. In fact, chances are that by October 11 the iPhone 4S/5 will already be announced by Apple and on its way to stores. Various reports have suggested that Google and Samsung will release the Nexus Prime after the fifth-generation iPhone is launched. Last time we checked, the phone was rumored to be released on November 3 so it makes plenty of sense to expect an announcement media event before the end of October.

In case the date is accurate then we expect Google to hold some its own media event soon to properly launch Ice Cream Sandwich, the next-gen Android OS that’s going to equip the Nexus Prime.

The question is, what will Samsung announce at the next Unpacked event if it’s not going to be the Nexus Prime?

Samsung Copies Apple App Store & Safari iOS App Icons If Needed

Apple and Samsung are not only fighting for market share in the mobile, tablet and computer business by launching new devices, they’re also suing each other on multiple continents for alleged design and/or patent infringements.

There are over 20 lawsuits between the two, and that number is growing steadily. In fact just earlier today we heard that the South Korean company countersued Apple in The Netherlands, a country where Apple has already obtained a significant preliminary victory against Samsung products a few weeks ago.

Without going through the full who-sued-where history I’ll briefly summarize it for you, Apple started it all back in April when it accused Samsung of copying its iPhone and iPad designs with its flagship Android smartphones and tablets. Samsung quickly responded by claiming that Apple is infringing on various wireless communication patents, and from there on the two have started filing lawsuit after lawsuit in various countries like South Korea, Japan, France, Italy, Germany, The Netherlands, UK, and, of course, the USA. So far Apple is winning as it has obtained various preliminary injunctions against well known Samsung products.

What’s interesting is that earlier today Samsung decided to clarify its position against Apple. Samsung will take a more active role in enforcing its patents, which probably translates into more lawsuits against Cupertino since it believes that Apple has been really using Samsung patents unjustly.

What’s even more interesting is that a Samsung store has a wall filled with icon apps including Apple original apps. You can easily see the icons of Apple’s Safari app and no less than three App Store app icons. These kind of icons are very specific for the iOS environment and since they’re native Apple apps they also happen to be unique. So what are they doing on that wall of apps? Is Samsung copying Apple design elements? Because I’m more than sure that Apple would never create such apps for Samsung Android or bada phones.

Oh and what’s also kind of ironic is that the Samsung Ace advertised on that display is one of the three Galaxy smartphones banned from selling by the Dutch court.

The store pictured above has been found in Italy but I’d be curious to see whether other Samsung stores have similar apps displayed on the walls. I’d be also interested to hear how Samsung will explain this, because, at the end of the day, how can they call Apple out for copying stuff when it’s Samsung that appears to do most of the copying? Who is the bigger copyist?

Samsung’s Next Phone May Be Headed To T-Mobile, Dubbed The Hercules

Cell phone news comes hot and fast these days, as everybody tries to get their next big thing out to market in short order. But today, new reports emerge of a possible new phone from Samsung, of all places, that’s going to put a whole lot of smartphone fans on watch, possibly to be called the Hercules.

This is still very, very early stage stuff, folks, so keep your eyes front as anything could change here at most any time. But the early word suggests that Samsung‘s got a little wonder in mind that will make most anything stand up and take notice. It’s said to be packing a 4.5 inch Super AMOLED Plus display showing at 800 x 480 resolution, and it’s backed up by a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon APQ8060 processor running at 1.2 GHz, a 42 Mbps HSDPA radio, a gig of RAM, a 16 gig flash drive, Android 2.3, an eight megapixel camera with 1080p video capture, and both MHL support as well as NFC technology. Some are comparing early sketches of it to the Infuse, which I have above pictured.
If you had a thrill of recognition at that processor name, though, you’re really on the ball. That Qualcomm Snapdragon beastie is the same one that the HP TouchPad is packing. But looking at the entirety of the specs here suggests some definite bonuses here, and a good quality smartphone. Samsung isn’t a name that usually jumps out at you when you’re thinking smartphone, not like Apple or HTC or Blackberry, and while they have done some nice pieces before, this one could definitely put them in the big leagues.
It’s said that this one will be coming to T-Mobile first, and will sell at $350, though there may be some subsidies along the line based on your voice plan. I emphasize may, however, as the only solid number to show is $350.

Samsung introduces Thinner Galaxy Tab 10.1 and new Galaxy Tab 8.9 at CTIA 2011

We were all waiting for it, and the day has finally come! Introduced earlier this morning in the USA, the two new Android 3.0 Tablet from Samsung will finally give the company an edge on Apple supremacy, or at least this is what Samsung hope for anyway.
