Nokia E6 leaked snapshot: Possible touchscreen UI on offer

Nokia E6 was first captured a while ago and the leaked snapshot created plenty of noise on whether it will sport a touchscreen UI. While nothing is confirmed as of yet and we have no hand-on leaked videos as such of the E6 being touchscreen capable, all new clues point to that actually happening. This could very emulate the E71 in integrating both the touchscreen and the QWERTY design to give Nokia fans a bit of a BlackBerry-like feel. (And that by no means is an insult, but just an observation due to striking similarity in form)

The E6 should come out on Symbian^3 and that is a bit of worry for those who might feel that the lack of support from Nokia for the OS in future is an issue. Remember that Nokia plasn to fade out the support for Symbian gradually and that will make many reluctant to pay for the new Nokia smartphones.
Nokia of course has still a huge market across the globe that includes Europe and South East Asia and many would be willing to still go with Nokia and the E6 regardless. (Sometimes it pays to remember that US is not the only mobile market on the planet) The new image suggests that the touchscreen is coming and hopefully future ones will confirm it for the E6 with a bit of action.

Nokia N950 set to be the first MeeGo mobile: End of the road for Nokia N9?

The N9 looked like a very impressive handset with the rumored 1.2GHz processor, 768MB of RAM and a 12-megapixel camera and more. Now it seems like this much talked about and highly anticipated handset will never be out in the open. At the recent developer’s conference Nokia made it clear that the N950 will be the first MeeGo mobile that they will be able to get their hands on


That is a bit disappointing considering we were really looking forward to seeing the N9 become the flagship mobile of Nokia. There were even reports doing rounds that it would be on display at the Mobile World Congress 2011. But with Nokia making it very clear that its MeeGo will be out on N950, we might as well have witnessed the death of N9.
Even the N950 at this point seems like a handset destined to spend a lot of time in the making and then in the hands of app developers before it could ever be available for public. The current launch date is being stated as late 2011, but we could be well into 2012 before that happens. The conference also made it very clear to developers that they will have to make their apps for the WP7 platform if they wish to continue on Nokia devices…

Nokia C5-03 Release Date, Specs, And Price Become Official1

I’m coming with great news for you handset lovers, because Nokia just launched the latest C5 device, a inexpensive touchscreen smartphone that brings a lot of great features, it’s simple to use but covers all of the essentials for modern-day phones.

Be more Social, with V1.3

Word has come in from the folk over at the Ovi Blog that there’s been an update to the Social app on the new Symbian devices, raising the version to V1.3. Grab your Nokia N8, Nokia C6-01 or Nokia C7 and log into Social for an automated update, bringing you the retweet function on Twitter, increased image upload size, increased phonebook integration, plus more to make connecting with friends easier.

On our devices, the update arrived automatically when you log into Twitter or Facebook after loading up the Social app. However, if you haven’t seen the message yet, open Social, press ‘options’ and ‘update service’ to download the new file.

Here’s what the update includes:

• Now you can see your friends status updates, right from their Contacts Card, reminding you of their latest thought before you actually ring them.
• The Linked Contacts Indicator lets you easily see what friends on your social networks have been synced to the contacts in your phonebook.
• If you’ve taken a photo and want to upload it straight to your Facebook page, you can now add a caption to give it some more personalisation.
• Image upload size has been increased, so you can now share images up to 4 MB in size, giving a much clearer end-result.
• Twitter now has the retweet function. Don’t forget to RT to let everybody know.

Nokia N8 with New Symbian 3 Platform

BlackBerry and iPhone now have a smartphone competitor as Nokia released Nokia N8. The Nokia N8 claimed to be a great partner for those who love to travel since the free global Ovi Maps walk and drive navigation is offered for a perfect substitution for a Satellite Navigation system.

The Nokia N8 runs on Symbian 3 Platform; this includes three personal easily-scrolled-through-homescreens. It has finger touch support for text input and UI control with on-screen alphanumeric keypad and full keyboard and Chinese handwriting recognition. It weights 135gm, with the size of 113.5 x 59 x 12.9 mm and a 3.5″ screen size with accelerometer and proximity sensor.

Nokia E7

It looks like the general Nokia E7 release is going to be happening in early 2011, which is not as far off as Rogers, however still not great news for anyone that had been hoping to get one in time for the holiday season.
That said, the latest details are coming by way of a recent Reuters report in which they are citing word from a Nokia spokesperson. According to the details given, the delay was so they could “ensure the best possible user experience.” Still, while disappointing, this news seems to be a repeat of an earlier event — the delayed release of the Nokia N8 smartphone. And perhaps Ben Wood who is a research director at British consultancy CCS Insight said it best;

“This rounds out a miserable year for Nokia with regards getting the new generation of Symbian phones out the door,”

After all, this delay of the E7 makes for two flagship devices being delayed in just one year. With that, and for anyone still interested in the handset that may need a refresher, the Nokia E7 features a 4 inch (640 x 360) AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display, GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, 3.5mm headphone jack, 16GB of internal storage, HDMI and an 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash and 720p video recording. In addition, the E7 is running Symbian^3 and features a full hardware QWERTY keyboard. And here is to hoping Nokia does not face any further delays on the release of this, not to mention, they have a better 2011 in terms of release schedules.

Nokia E7 Coming in Time for Christmas?

The Nokia E7 was one of the phones revealed during Nokia World back in September and although the  Nokia N8 has stolen all the headlines since then, this exciting business device has never been far from our minds. The latest rumours suggest the E7 will be hitting stores from the 10th December, so we can all hope for one to appear in our Christmas stocking!

This news doesn’t come from one of those elusive ‘anonymous sources’ either, as it was a tweet from a Nokia account that spilled the beans.

Subsequently removed, GSMArena managed to save the wording of the offending 140-character faux pas before it disappeared. In addition to the phone being mentioned alongside the December 10th date, interested parties were told to check the Nokia site for details as availability would vary from country to country.

Heading over to Nokia’s site and you’ll still only find the E7 page accompanied by an email signup box to be notified when it’s available. This aside, the fact the tweet was rapidly removed does tip this into the realm of ‘very possible’.

If you need reminding of why you should be excited about the E7, it’s because it shares a similar look to the N8 but has a slide-out QWERTY keyboard under its 4″ AMOLED screen, making it the spiritual successor to the much-loved Communicator series of Nokia phones. It also has an 8 megapixel camera, GPS and the latest Symbian^3 operating system.

Nokia shows concept phone that charges in a user's pocket

Cell phone giant Nokia has shown off a concept phone that uses a heat-conductive charging system to fill up its battery when in a user's pocket. Dubbed E-Cu, for Environment and Copper, the handset converts body heat into energy. The concept was designed by London resident Patrick Hyland.

The concept doesn't have a charger, and its copper rear panel has engraved heatsinks that looks like dry clay earth. When or if the handset will ever ship hasn't been revealed. [via DeZeen]

Nokia is still a pretty big disappointment in the smartphone business. The Nokia N8 was supposed to arrive this summer and we all had high hopes for it. The first Symbian^3 device was delayed month after month and it started shipping only recently.

Nokia lost plenty of customers to Apple and Google and now that the N8 is finally available, at least in certain markets, we might see it ignored in favor of the upcoming Windows Phone 7 handsets that are coming this October in Europe. So what’s next for Nokia? Clearly the N8 will not be a match for the iPhone 4 or any of the hot Android handsets available out there, at least not in people’s minds. That means we might need a new flagship device from Nokia to steal our attention.
The Nokia N9 might be the handset we’re looking for. The phone is supposed to be “nearly perfect” although that’s definitely not enough. After all we know phones are not perfect, and we don’t expect any future mobile devices to reach perfection, do we?
The news comes from Eldar Murtazin, a guy that always seems to know what’s happening with new Nokia handsets. The N9 is a MeeGo device, all the more reasons to be happy to hear was spotted in the wild, and will probably be the obvious successor of the N900. That “near perfect” quote relates to the hardware of the device, as the software has to be perfected by launch time:

In terms of HW is near perfect, i like it.
In terms of SW is not so good at the moment – but hope they will change it in 2011

In case the Nokia N8 does not convince you then you might just as well try something else from the competition and wait for this MeeGo handset to hit the streets. Not having seen the device in action yet, or a commercially viable version of MeeGo, I still say that MeeGo should become a primary mobile OS at Nokia, especially now that we have a new CEO at the helm.

Nokia N8 Release Date, Specs, And Details Made Official

The Nokia N8 has already been reviewed by Eldar Murtazin and it was about time for Nokia to officially unveil the smartphones. At the moment the smartphone is not available on the market, but the Nokia N8 release date is Q3 2010 for €370. It’s a very cheap device for what it has to offer, however, if it were to trust Murtazin, then the N8 will become the disappointment of the year. This is not new as the Nokia N97 wasn’t the most welcomed smartphone when released.
Anyway the Finnish-based company has released the official Nokia N8 specs. The smartphone is powered by a 680MHz processor, 256MB RAM, 512MB ROM, 16GB internal storage expandable up to 32GB via microSD card, 12-megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens and Xenon flash, 3.5-inch nHD 640 x 480 capacitive touchscreen , HDMI port, HD video recording, FM Radio, 3.5mm headset jack, built-in GPS, accelerometer, proximity sensor, H.264/720p support, WiFi, Bluetooth, and a 1200mAh battery.
The Nokia N8 is made of an unibody aluminum case and it will be released in five colors including Black, Silver, Lime Green, Orange, and Light Blue. The Symbian ^3 UI is definitely better than previous version, however, social networking integration and others are not enough to be on par with Android OS. Check out the gallery below.

Nokia C6-01 And Nokia C7 Announced At Nokia World 2010: Price, Release Date, And Specs Now Official

Besides the Nokia E7 and the Nokia N8, the Finnish-based company also took its time to introduce the new Nokia C6-01 and Nokia C7 at the Nokia World 2010 conference in London. Although they are considered low-end devices, these smartphones come with interesting specs like 8MP camera and AMOLED touchscreens. Like always, the fun is ruined by the Symbian^3 OS which sucks as always. And don’t sell me that functionality crap because I’m not buying it!
The Nokia C6-01 features a 3.2-inch AMOLED touchscreen with ClearBlack Display, a technology which allows users to actually see something when the device is in direct sunlight. On the other hand, the Nokia C7 features a 3.5-inch display with the same display & technology.
Both smartphones feature a 8-megapixel camera with LED flash which can also record 720p HD video recording. The Nokia C7 has the advantage of a sleek stainless steel casing, fact which made Anssi Vanjoki to say that this is the “sleekest smartphone in the world.”
Upon hearing this, I think that Nokia will be better off without Vanjoki. I really hope that he doesn’t believe this false illusion. Come on Nokia, you can do it! You were the best when it came to innovation. I really miss those times! The revolution needs to begin now!

6 Reasons The N900 Is Better Than The Nokia N8

The Nokia N8 is already available for preorder at a number of online retailers and the Finnish company has confirmed that the handset is started to ship from mainland China to customers.

The handset, the first to come with the Symbian^3 operating system, is the current top dog at Nokia and will compete with the X6, the N97 and the E7 when it is finally launched.

However, we would still stick to an old favourite, the Nokia N900, should be have to choose between the two Nokia handsets, for at least five good reasons.

The N900 comes with 32GB onboard memory and another 32GB can be added thanks to a microSD card while the N8 only comes with 16GB.

While both smartphones have a 3.5-inch screen, the N900 has a much higher resolution, 800x480 pixels, compared to 640x360 pixels for the N8.

Both have 256MB RAM but the N900 can boost it up to 1GB thanks to virtual memory; doing so ensures a smoother mobile experience.
