FBI Investigates iPad Cyber Security Breach

The FBI is investigating a potential cyber threat involving the Apple iPad after the email addresses of more than 114,000 owners were publicly exposed.

The security breach meant hackers were able to obtain the addresses through the website of phone company AT&T.
Those whose details were leaked included New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel and film mogul Harvey Weinstein, according to Silicon Valley website Valleywag.
FBI spokesperson Lindsay Godwin said: "The FBI is aware of these possible computer intrusions and has opened an investigation to address this potential cyber threat."
But she said the bureau was not releasing any other information at the moment.
This breach underscores the need for robust cyber security.

AT&T said it learnt about the "hole" in its website on Monday and fixed the problem on Tuesday.
But members of the public were unaware of the breach until a group of hackers known as Goatse Security revealed the details to online media and blog network Gawker Media - which owns Valleywag - sparking an international frenzy.
Jamie Barnett, chief of the Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau, said: "I am concerned about the report of a security breach to AT&T's network that exposed the personal data of more than 100,000 iPad users.
"This breach underscores the need for robust cyber security," he said.
Gawker Media also runs the popular technology blog Gizmodo, which obtained a secret prototype of an Apple iPhone in April after it was lost in a California bar and published details and pictures of the device.
