what we understand when Schmidth says the Nexus S is an “unannounced phone” from an “announced manufacturer”.
But we know it will be available on T-Mobile, just like the Nexus One — if we’re to believe the T-Mobile logo in the upper right hand corner of the display, and if we’re to believe the rumors, it’s going to be build by Samsung.
While specs for Google’s flagship smartphone are scarce, we managed to get our hands on a few features it’s going to come with. And that includes support for interaction with NFC enhanced devices and RFID tags — which means you’ll be able to use your Nexus S for paying stuff, rather than using your credit card or your wallet.
Along with the announcement of the Google Nexus S, Schmidt also mentioned that Android
Gingerbread is ready to be rolled out in the coming weeks. There’s now word which handsets will get it and when — other than the Nexus S, of course — but knowing that the build is ready to be released is a good sign.
He did however say, “There’s a set of things that the iPhone did a brilliant job of doing on a closed system … but the next real focus is on the application layer. You have to establish volume first, which is what we’ve done. We think Android will be a leading platform, if not the leading platform”.
