The HTC Rhyme

The HTC Rhyme is something of a delicate matter, as it is HTC's firstphone that is said to have been designed with a female audience in mind. Yet it comes in dull colours and looks quite a lot like every other HTC handset we’ve seen so far.

HondaJet makes its Mark by Successfully Completing the First Flight of FAA-Conforming

In tough to crack at avionic market , Honda Aircraft Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of Honda Motor Company, made a foothold by introducing its first commercial aircraft HondaJet. HondaJet is an advanced light business jet incorporating many innovative technological advances in aviation design, including a unique over-the-wing engine mount configuration which dramatically improves aircraft performance and fuel efficiency by greatly reducing aerodynamic drag in flight. Furthermore, this innovative approach to airframe design would result in lower ground detected noise when overhead, allowing for more spacious cabin as well as larger cargo capacity. The HondaJet is powered by two GF Honda HF120 turbofan jet engines. The aircraft cost $4.5 million with over 100 orders scheduled for delivery by third quarter of 2012. The aircraft has top speed of 420 knots (483 mph) and a maximum altitude of 43,000 ft. in flight testing. The aircraft has successfully passed its first FAA-Conforming, during its 51 minute flight, when the aircraft was checked and analyzed for its flight characteristics and performance.
The aircraft flight deck features a Honda’s customized Garmin® G3000 next-generation all-glass avionics system incorporating a class-leading layout with three 14-inch landscape format display and dual touch screen controllers for overall avionics control and flight plan entries, making it the most advanced glass flight deck available in any light business jet. In addition to this, the aircraft has a stat of art integrated avionics functionality featuring split screen with MFD capability, satellite weather, graphical synoptic, digital audio, and optional Synthetic Vision

Release of New Laser Rangefinder by NIKON

Nikon Vision, a subsidiary of Nikon has introduced Laser 1000A S, a new laser rangefinder with a golf mode feature. The new 1000A S in addition to displaying the actual distance, height and horizontal distance, is capable of displaying slope-adjusted distance in the viewfinder, a useful feature, helping user to easily understand the distance to the target in a hilly surroundings. The new 1000A S’s Golf mode is a slope-adjusted distance and actual distance mode. The golf mode is among the several display mode cycle on this newly released laser rangefinder. The 1000A S comes with Actual distance and height mode, horizontal distance and height mode, Actual distance mode, as well as golf mode.
Among some of the key features on this new laser rangefinder are wider filed of view of 7.5 degrees, active brightness control viewfinder for easy, clear viewing, improved light transmittance for a brighter field of view, larger ocular for easy viewing (18 mm), to name a few. The new 1000A S is in compliance with RoHS and WEEE.

Development of World’s First Color Electronic Holography Display Systems

Group of researchers at National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) has successfully developed the world’s first electronic holography display system with 15 degrees viewing-zone angle and 4cm diagonal display size. The new display system is capable of display color moving holography images, through application of viewing-zone enlargement technique and ultra-high definition display devices with 33 million pixels, making the viewing-zone angle at least 3 times larger and the display area approximately 2 times larger than the conventional systems. The new display system utilizes 3 ultra-high definition LCoSs (Liquid Crystal on Silicon) with 33 million pixels along with its 4cm diagonal display device, where it can reconstruct rightward, forward and leftward light.
The color display has been made by the field-sequential-color method, a method that sequentially displays 3 red holograms on the three display devices together in an instant, then 3 green holograms together in the next instant and 3 blue holograms together in the following instant, repeatedly. In a normal mode of display, the red, green and blue holograms are each displayed simultaneously on the three devices by refreshing the color picture 60 times per second or with a frame rate of 60Hz. In field-sequential-color display, the frame rate is 20Hz. The development of the new system is with an aim to produce the ultimate future 3D TV, and ultra-realistic communication. The new display is still some times away form its commercialization, due to its small display and its large accompanying equipment.

Release of a New Photovoltaic Inverters with Industry’s Highest Conversion efficiency

Sanyo Denki has released SANUPS P83D, a new Photovoltaic (PV) inverters achieving industry’s top level conversion efficiency of 97%. This new inverter is to e introduced to Asian as well as European market, expanding the lineup for overseas use from 3kW to 250kW. The new SANUPS P83D comes with an expected 20 years life cycle.
The new inverter has a input operating voltage range of between 430 to 900V DC, at a rated frequency of 50/60 Hz. The new inverter will be released into the market on January 5th, 2011

Development of Hybrid Electricity Generating Device by Fujitsu

Fujitsu Laboratories has announced the development of new hybrid energy harvesting device capable of simultaneous electricity generation from either source of heat or light. Development of single device to handle both heat and light as the source will enable the use of sensors in applications and areas which were not possible. In addition to this, it offers a great potential for powering a variety of sensors networks and medical sensing technologies.
The hybrid electricity generating capability comes by changing the electrical circuits connecting two types of semiconductor materials namely, the P-type and N-type semiconductors, resulting in a device that can function as a photovoltaic cell or thermoelectric generator. For the development of this device Fujitsu Laboratories has developed an organic material that is suitable as generator in both photovoltaic and thermoelectric modes. The new device paves the way for such sensors that monitor body temperature, blood pressure and heartbeats, without any needs for batteries and electrical wiring.

Development of Novel Technology in Reducing Speckle Noise in Projectors and Displays using Laser Light Source by DNP

In spite of LED’s advantages over high pressure mercury lamp as a light source for displays, projectors as well as illumination, offering a longer life cycle and reduced power consumption, not to mention the possibility of downsizing the optical components, the laser light source are prone to generate speckle noise which appears as a fine mottled splashing causing scintillation. To overcome this issue, DNP has developed a new technology which is based on multi-recording and light-forming functions of holograms with an aim to reduce speckle noise that is the cause of scintillation. DNP has used volume hologram functions capable of reproducing the same image in the same position no matter which point on the hologram the light beam is projected upon.
The new technique projects the laser light source as a beam on various points of the hologram in a repeated manner with an optical scanning device, like scan-mirror, where the angle of incidence on the images reproduced on the screen constantly changes, generating numerous interference patterns. As a result of this, the interference patterns are averaged, whereby reducing the speckle noise. Furthermore, as the laser beam shaping and homogenizing of light intensity can be carried out with hologram, optical equipment such as diffuser and the lens array are no longer needed. The application of this new technology can be extended to sensors, such as 3D scanners as well as image devices.

Development of World’s First 3D Sound System Paving the way for the Ultimate 3D TV

Group of researchers at National Institute of Information and Communication Technology otherwise know as NICT have successfully developed the world’s first 62-channel 3D sound systems. The 3D sound system is capable of creating composition areas by subdividing the equator of a sphere into 20 parts as well as dividing both the upper and lower part of its hemispheres in half, so the sound can be emitted through 62 directions. This method will achieve an improved precision in which the sound source orientation can be represented, resulting in an acoustic representation that can be perceived more easily due to the resolution that is 2.5 times better horizontally and 1.5 times better vertically than conventional devices.
This novel technique will make it easier for the listener to perceive, for example, the direction in which a singer is facing or the movement of a violin player during a performance. Through this method, the types of reproducible sound sources are also increased, resulting in a better sense of presence and realism. I conventional sound systems such as stereo or 5.1 channel systems in 3D imaging will reproduce sound source only in one direction or even worse the sound source orientation and motion can not be reproduced at all
