I think it’s fair to say Archos is keen on tablets. And I can say this because the company is adding five new ones to its lineup.
Archos 101
The Archos 101 is the biggest of the bunch, with a 10.1-inch screen making it the closest in competition with the Apple iPad. It boasts a 1GHz ARM Cortex A8 CPU, 720p HD video, a VGA camera, and an HDMI slot. There will be 8GB and 16GB models, with prices around the $300 mark.
Archos 70
The Archos 70 has a 7-inch screen (can you see a pattern with the names here?) It boasts the same 1GHz processor, a USB slot and a mini-HDMI slot. There will be an 8GB flash storage model as well as a 250GB hard drive one, with prices set to be around the $275 mark.
Archos 43
The Archos 43 has a 4.3-inch screen, resistive rather than capacitive like the previous two. It boasts the same processor, an HDMI slot, a 2MP camera, and will weigh in at just 4.6-ounces thanks to its smartphone size. 8GB and 16GB models will be available to buy for around $199.
Archos 32
The Archos 32 has a 3.2-inch screen, again resistive. The processor gets scaled down to an 800MHz ARM Cortex A8 but it’s still capable of outputting 720p HD video. There is no HDMI slot but the weight drops again to just 2.5-ounces. The price is expected to be set at around $150.
Archos 28
The last, and smallest, of the bunch is the Archos 28 with (unsurprisingly) a 2.8-inch screen. The 800MHz ARM Cortex A8 processor is present once again but this is more like a PMP than a tablet. There is no camera, no HDMI, and no Bluetooth but priced at just $100 this should fly off the shelves.
Will any of these tablets succeed? Archos is definitely hedging its bets by releasing such a wide variety of devices.
