Ricoh G700SE Digital Camera to Come with GPS Functions; Release in 2011

Ricoh has announced the G700SE digital camera which is the successor to the previously released Ricoh G700. The camera, which is designed for specific markets like governments and police departments, will be coming with GPS functions.

The camera is an upgraded version of the G700 and the device features wireless LAN support as well as Bluetooth 2.1. There will be optional extra features such as GPS and laser bar code reading.
By installing the electronic compass-equipped GPS unit, it will be possible for you to add position and direction information to the images. By installing the laser barcode reader unit, it will be possible to do rapid recognition of one-dimensional barcodes.
These capabilities make the device a powerful tool for a wide range of operations, including facility maintenance, disaster planning, and other functions of local governments, police departments and fire departments.
The new camera measures 118.8 (W) x 71 x (H) x 41 (D) mm, and has a 12 megapixel sensor, 5x optical zoom, 720p video recording capabilities and an SD card slot. It will also be water and dust resistant.
The camera comes with a price tag of 799 EUR, or about $1,070, and it will be made available in early 2011.
