No longer just for the gadget-centric brands of the world, the 2011 International Consumer Electronics Show, better known as CES, is now a platform for other to unveil new lifestyle applications from all industry. And one to debut at the start of this year’s trade show is the Nike+ SportWatch GPS.
From its inception with Apple in 2006, the Nike+ program has since established the world’s largest running community, with over 150 million runs logged and close to 4 million runners as members. With the new Nike+ SportWatch GPS, Nike hopes to attract more running enthusiasts as well as optimize performance of its current members. Powered by TomTom (yes, the same TomTom you find on the GPS device aisle), the new timepiece not only display run history, current run data, heart rate monitor, personal records form NikePlus.com, and a myriad of functions. The Nike+ SportWatch GPS also gives runners a “post run debriefing” when upload the data to NikePlus.com. A wealth of information, such as distance, elevation, and location, all on a graphical, easy to understand presentation. This will allow each runner to cater his or hers running experience and maximize their performance. Nike+ SportWatch GPS powered by TomTom is set to launch April 1st in the United States and England with availability to the rest of the world to come later this year. So far, no words on whether Darth Vader or Yoda’s voices will be added as “Personal Encouragement”

• Run History with data from past runs
• Personal Records including those imported from Nikeplus.com
• Quick Start with optional shoe-based Nike+ Sensor
• Heart Rate Monitor compatibility

• Run Reminders that appear after five days if a run has not been logged
• Post-run acknowledgement and encouragement
