Sprint and HTC have yet to make their formal announcements for the HTC EVO 3D, but that's not stopping plenty of information from flowing about regarding this flagship smartphone. Yesterday we got an early peek at some of the device's specifications, this morning we found the phone sneaking around Sprint's website, and now we've heard about a potential release date. While squarely in the "rumor" category at this point, supposedly the phone will begin retail availability this June.
June will likely put the EVO 3D right up against the iPhone 5, assuming Apple sticks with the early summer releases it favors. If this rumor is true, then clearly HTC and Sprint are ready to position the EVO 3D as a direct competitor to the iPhone. While we're still guessing at that device's capabilities, a dual-core Android with a qHD no-glasses 3D display just might be enough to get some regular Apple buyers rethinking things this year. A large part of the decision may come down to software, which Apple traditionally has a leg up on; if the right apps can convince customers that the HTC's 3D is more than a gimmick, and actually a valuable feature, we might be up for a fight.
