Ray Allen rewrites NBA history

Boston Celtics star Ray Allen is the NBA's new all-time leader in 3-point baskets.

The 35-year-old hit a distance throw with 1:48 left in the first quarter against the Los Angeles Lakers (86-92) on Thursday night to surpass Reggie Miller atop the league's career list.

The new record is now 2,561 3-pointers, and no doubt Allen will continue move this benchmark upwards.

Miller, a former Indiana Pacers leader, was courtside at the TD Garden working on the TNT television broadcast. Allen walked over to him during the next break, and then bumped fists with Lakers star Kobe Bryant. It took Allen 6,430 shots to reach the record compared to Miller’s 6,486.

As for the game, the Los Angeles Lakers spoiled Ray Allen's record-setting night by beating the Celtics 92-86.

Kobe Bryant scored 20 of his 23 points in the second half, Pau Gasol added 20 points and 10 rebounds for the Lakers, who split the regular season series with their biggest rivals and got a much needed victory against one of the league's top teams.
