Whoa, this really came out of nowhere: Facebook is developing a phone and it’s got some of its best men working on it. TechCrunch reports that a reliable source says that Apple and Google are a threat to Facebook therefore the social networking company needs to release a Facebook phone with “deep Facebook integration.”
This sounds really weird as both Android and iOS platforms have deep Facebook integration so this must be Facebook’s problem. Anyway the company was quick to deny the rumors and says that a Facebook phone is not real because this is now what they do.
Still we cannot simply believe Facebook’s words because this is not what we do. The rumors go deeper and say that Matthew Papakipos as well as Joe Hewitt are working on the Facebook phone and when you have someone like Erick Tseng on your side then we’re almost sure that Facebook has and it’s currently exploring the possibility of the aforementioned product.
Apparently there are lots of people involved in this project including Spotify’s Li Ka-shing who also worked at the INQ1 handset. Rumors will always be here and a Facebook phone would not help the market in one way or another. We’ve already had the Kin One and Kin Two, a couple of social media phones from Microsoft who failed miserably.
