the Samsung SCH-R910 Forte has recently been spotted in an FCC filing, which as many realize, is one required step towards actual availability. Of course, this does not guarantee a release, however according to the latest in the rumor mil — that is coming on February 11th.
Unfortunately, nothing all that surprising was revealed in the filing, no photos and no additional specs that we did not already know. Bottom line here, this is just that formality step and the only goodie given was not all that exciting. Then again, MetroPCS users may be excited because the Forte will make for a nice addition in terms of devices that support LTE.
Otherwise the Samsung Forte is also expected to arrive sporting a 1GHz processor, 5 megapixel camera, Wi-Fi and a microSD card slot. In terms of the display, we can say that it will be WVGA, however there is nothing in terms of the size. Still, none of these specs have been officially confirmed as of now.
And speaking of further speculation — Android. We can tell you that the Forte will be an Android handset but similar to the other missing parts — we are unsure which version of Android to expect. Previous reports have hinted at Android 2.2 or even 2.3, however given the timing (assuming February 11th is accurate) it would be reasonable to expect 2.2 as opposed to 2.3.
Bottom line, the Samsung Forte is coming to MetroPCS and it will be an LTE compatible smartphone with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard. But aside from the release date, we still need the pricing, which for a pre-paid handset could be make or break.
