The world’s first dual-core Android smartphone seems to be closer to launch than one might have expected. Sure, we knew ever since its official announcement that the LG Optimus 2X would hit the streets in LG’s home country of South Korea sometime in January, but availability elsewhere was unclear.
And now it has been confirmed that the dual-core Tegra 2-powered beast will be in stores in Europe next month as well. There’s no exact date just yet, but, if it will indeed ship in January, expect to see pre-orders pop up at your favorite retailer pretty soon.
The Optimus 2X, it turns out, will also come with exclusive music created by Ennio Morricone, as did the LG Optimus Mach LU3000 before it. 15 new tracks will accompany 10 of the composer’s most well known works for the movie industry. In addition to ringtones, there are plans to create a whole range of apps with content related to the composer, including images and videos. These will be free to download at a later date.
With CES and MWC 2011 close by, it will be interesting to see if any of the phones that will get announced there will manage to steal at least some of the Optimus 2X’s thunder. One thing’s for sure – the following couple of months are going to be very interesting in the mobile world.
