New Ways to Back Breast Cancer Fight

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness month, and all around the country companies are showing their support in a variety of ways. The month kicked off with the now traditional Race for the Cure, and some companies are showing support of a more nontraditional kind.
Hanes(HBI_), which produces the official T-shirt of the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure series, is also introducing a design-and-buy T-shirt program and Pink collection to demonstrate its support. Here visitors can make their own design and have the chance for it to be featured in the HanesPink.com T-shirt gallery. This program runs through the end of the year, and Hanes is donating 10% of the proceeds to Komen. Hanes also reprises its role as official apparel sponsor of Passionately Pink for the Cure, a fundraising program created by Susan G. Komen for the Cure that inspires breast cancer advocacy and honors those affected by the disease. Melina Kanakaredes, most recently of CBS'(CBS ) CSI: New York, will lead the campaign. Additionally, Hanes will make an aggregate cash and in-kind contribution of $500,000 to Komen this year.

NASCAR Sprint(S_) Cup Series, the NASCAR Nationwide Series and IndyCar Drivers have shown their support by going pink through pink paint schemes, fire suits and pit crew outfits. Freshly pinked cars will race around tracks in Kansas City, Kan., Miami, Redding, Pa., Charlotte, N.C., and Fort Worth, Texas, throughout the month. Sarah Fisher Racing's No. 67Dollar General(DG_) car ran pink during the IndyCar Championships on Oct. 2 at Miami Homestead Speedway. The following day, Elliott Sadler's No. 19Stanley(SWK_) Ford(F_) Fusion and Martin Truex Jr.'s No. 56 NAPA Auto Parts car ran pink at the Price Chopper 400 in Kansas City. No. 28 NAPA Dodge Charger showed off its pink during the Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals in Redding. On Oct. 15, Dollar General also races Reed Sorenson's No. 32 at the Dollar General 300 in Charlotte. The pink demonstration culminates Nov. 7, when NAPA will again run a pink car at the AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
The Graceful Astia -- called a sexy, seductive, feminine cocktail indicative of life and survival -- was created by mixologist Emilio Tiburcio to honor the fight against breast cancer.
To capture the respect for life and dedication the Susan G. Komen Foundation demonstrates in its fight against breast cancer, TravelsinTaste.com asked its resident award-winning mixology expert, Emilio Tiburcio of Fusion Mixology Bar at the Palazzo Resort Hotel Casino to create a sexy, seductive, feminine cocktail indicative of life and survival. The result -- a piece of art in a glass -- was The Graceful Astia, a delicate drink featuring an aggressive floral palate and a powerful, interesting finish. According to its creator, this drink takes all of the earth's beauty and puts it inside a martini glass. "I hope to give a smile to each one of you when you taste all these floral flavors and bubbles," Tiburcio says. "Each smile from you will help make the world a better place for all of us."
The commemorative cocktail is named for Astia, a nonprofit that supports women entrepreneurs, develops women business leaders and funds women-led startups. It debuted recently at the Watermark (formerly known as the Forum for Women Entrepreneurs & Executives) awards ceremony, where Susan G. Komen Foundation founder and CEO Nancy G. Brinker was honored. .
Not only is the drink beautiful and tasteful; it is great for the environment! For every bottle Greenbar Collective sells of their organic liquor they plant a tree in rain forests throughout Central America. They've planted more than 76,000! GreenBar Collective represents the world's largest portfolio of organic, handcrafted spirits, including the Tru organic vodka used in this drink.
