Mesker Door (http://www.meskerdoor.com), an innovator in the manufacture of hollow metal doors and frames, was recognized this week for continued efforts in environmental safety and air pollution control.
The City of Huntsville, Alabama, where Mesker Door is headquartered, presented the company with its Air Pollution Control Achievement Award for emission reductions. It is the fourth time the city has recognized the company with the award.
In 2009, Mesker replaced the spray booths and paint application equipment on the door surface coating line. The move improved overspray control, which reduces particulates in the air, and reduced paint usage.
Mesker also switched from solvent-based coatings to water-based coatings, reducing emissions of Volatile Organic Compounds and Hazardous Air Pollutants by more than 50 percent.
The annual Air Pollution Control Achievement Awards Program was established in 1997 to recognize voluntary efforts to reduce air pollutant emissions by industrial, institutional and commercial facilities within the city.
Mesker Door continually surpasses regulatory requirements for emission controls. The company is a regular contributor to Huntsville’s environmental health and safety initiatives and its “Operation Green Team.”
