Launch of World’s First Commercial Nano-Satellite for Monitoring Polar Ice Conditions in Arctic Region

Rising CO2 emissions caused by burning fossil fuel around the globe has increased the atmospheric temperature and created a phenomenon know as global warming, a major contributing factor in thinning of ice in arctic region. This phenomenon has increased the navigation routes by opening of new passages for shipping vessels which was non-existence up to decade ago. The new route has help the shipping industry to save fuels by cutting the typical shipping route by 2/3, resulting ironically in reduction in fuel consumption. In light of this, one Japanese firm by the name of AXELSPACE is taking this man made disaster and turning it into a business opportunity. The firm in partnership with Weathernews inc. has developed a super-compact cubic nano-satellite system measuring only 27 cm in each side.
The new satellite is capable of monitoring and forecasting polar ice conditions in the Arctic Region in order to help the safe voyages for vessels sailing the Arctic Sea. The satellite is equipped with two off-the-shelf commercial cameras one visible light and the other infrared, enabling it to capture a ground image with in area of up to 500 square kilometer with a single shot. The satellite will be launch with the help of space agency Yasny Cosmodrome,Russia
