HTC EVO Shift 4G / Knight / Speedy Release Date January 9?

The HTC EVO Shift 4G, also known as the Knight or the Speedy, is an Android device heading to Sprint at some point in the future, and a phone that has been spotted in various leaks and rumors so far already.

The HTC EVO Shift 4G is, according to previously leaked specs and features, Sprint’s own T-Mobile G2 or HTC Desire Z version but with 4G WiMAX connectivity on top. Today we hear that Sprint might launch the EVO Shift 4G on January 9, 2011, although that particular date is in no way confirmed yet and we’ll definitely wait for a Sprint official press release before we get excited.
We also happen to have an image of the device, the one above, although sources say we could be looking at a dummy device and not the real handset. On the other hand we don’t expect any serious surprises as the phone will basically be fairly similar to the T-Mobile G2 and Sprint can’t really change the overall design of the EVO Shift 4G.
While the G2/Desire Z is a great Android handset, we will remind you, before setting your sights on this EVO Shift 4G handset that we expect a lot of interesting Android handsets to arrive in the near future. The first one, and the most obvious one, will be the Samsung Google Nexus S, a handset that will be released on December 16.
If that’s not enough then we’ll remind you that Motorola will launch the Olympus/Etna, a dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 Android smartphone at some point in 2011 and Verizon will have a bunch of 4G LTE handsets too, probably most of those being Android, in the following months.
