EVs are poised to take over the automotive industry, with various manufacturers coming out with their high MPGe plug-in cars, some of which are purely electric. The Mitsubishi i-MiEV has just debuted in Europe.
Nissan has its LEAF EV, Chevy has its Volt, Toyota has the planned plug-in Prius, and other manufacturers have their own contender. The Mitsubishi i-MiEV is Mitubishi’s foray into the consumer electric vehicle market. With a 100-mile range per charge, and an 80 mph maximum speed, the i-MiEV is comparable to other EVs in the same price range.
The i-MiEV will initially sell in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norwa, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK. There are also requests to introduce the EV to Finland, Serbia, Turkey and Slovenia.
A US version is planned for release later this year, although no definite date has been announced. In the US market, Mitsubishi plans to sell the i-MiEV at $30,000, and tax credits are expected to bring down the price further
