If you’ve ever had an ideological quandary as to whether to get an Android tablet, a MeeGo tablet or a Windows 7 tablet, prepare to have your life irreparably altered thanks to the Evolve III Maestro, a tablet that will triple-boot with Android, MeeGo and Windows 7
Yes, that’s right: you’ll have your choice of any of these three different OSes once you hit the go-button on your Evolve III Maestro. But this isn’t where the tech freakiness ends, no sir or ma’am as the case may be, but rather where it begins. See, the Maestro will also be packing an Intel Atom N475 processor, two gigs of RAM, a 32 gig solid state drive, a ten inch display (operating at what reports suggest is a 1024 x 600 resolution), wi-fi and 3G connectivity, and more.
And while this by itself is a reason to sit up and take notice, you’ll also be interested to note that, according to reports, there will be a later version on its way that’s packing–get this–a dual-core Oak Trail processor. Chances are it’ll also get some extra RAM and storage capacity to boot.
This is where things get interesting; if tablets can, as the Evolve III Maestro so clearly demonstrates, allow three different operating systems at once to run on them, how long before we no longer have tablet wars? How long before Android Market shows up on Windows systems, laptops and desktops included? Will iOS soon run on Windows systems? Are we growing toward a more centralized structure for technology, in which everyone’s running under the same basic platform, or can be with the stroke of a touchscreen swipe? Maybe that’s going a bit too far, but we have the concept right before us. Who knows where it will go?
Anyway, the Evolve III Maestro will be available in the second quarter of 2011, so look for it pretty soon-pricing, however, is not yet announced, though reports suggest it will be in the $500 range
