Monsoon Multimedia, a leading provider of video convergence products, today launched the consumer mobile accessory Vulkano Flow. When connected to any set-top box the new Vulkano Flow can stream high quality TV content to mobile devices inside or outside of the home. While many products today are limited by content providers or geographic location, the Flow can stream video from any set-top box, located anywhere in the world, for a one time purchase of the Flow.
The Flow has a seamless installation process making set up very easy and allows TV content viewing of any channel the consumer gets at home on BlackBerry and Android smartphones and tablets, iPhones, iPads, Macs, PCs and soon Windows 7 and Symbian devices. The Vulkano Flow will soon be sold as a mobile accessory for $99 by leading retailers, etailers, strategic OEM's and through Monsoon's www.myvulkano.com website.
"With over 270 million smartphones and tablets sold worldwide in 2010, analysts are calling 2011 the year of the smartphone and expect smartphones to make up 50 percent of all phones in use by the end of 2011," said Colin Stiles, EVP of sales and marketing at Monsoon. "We have seen an amazing response to the full-featured Vulkanos, but many customers wanted an affordable TV streaming accessory for their smartphones and tablets. The Vulkano Flow enables them to watch their television programming during their commute, a business trip, family vacation or wherever they are regardless of their TV service provider."
After a simple set up, Flow owners download Vulkano apps onto their devices from www.myvulkano.com or from the respective device app store. Consumers can then select channels from the integrated electronic programming guide (EPG) to watch and control their home TV service through a wired Ethernet, Wi-Fi or 3G connection from anywhere in the world. Software players for PCs/Macs, iPhone and iPad devices also come with Pause/Live functions to provide users with the option to fast-forward and rewind the content they are viewing.
Today Monsoon Multimedia also announced the full-featured Vulkano Blast, which integrates DVR, web video, place shifting, Universal Plug and Play streaming (UPnP), Mobile Video Recording and 160 GB internal storage for $199.99. Both devices included free PC and Mac players, while iPad, iPhone, BlackBerry, Android, tablet and additional smartphone applications can be purchased the low price of $9.99 each in the respective app stores.
