Sharp has expanded its home entertainment products with several new 3D Blu-ray players and 3D televisions. The BD-HP90U and BD-HP80U both support 3D Blu-ray content in 1080p resolution at 24fps, while also allowing users to access a variety of web-based services, such as Netflix and Pandora, via Wi-Fi or Ethernet connections.
Aside from Blu-ray Discs, the devices can also play content such as standard DVDs, CDs, DivX HR files, still photos and MP3 audio. Media can be connected via USB, while a future firmware upgrade will bring support for DLNA streaming.
The BD-HP90U offers all of the same basic features as the BD-HP80U, along with an RS-232 port for universal remote control systems. The upgraded model also includes a stand that allows the device to be operated in a vertical position.
Sharp also announced that two of its AQUOS Quattron 3D televisions have been released in the US market. The 60-inch LC-60LE925UN and 52-inch LC-52LE925UN both feature a dynamic contrast ratio of 8,000,000:1, while two sets of 3D glasses are included with each model. The glasses allow one person to watch in 2D while others watch in 3D.
The TVs offer Wi-Fi connectivity for access to the company's AQUOS Net service, which supports web-based content such as Netflix and VUDU streaming video. USB ports can also be used to load digital video, images or audio files.
The BD-HP90U and BD-HP80U are both expected to be launched in September, with respective MSRPs of $500 and $430. The LC-60LE925UN is currently available with an MSRP of $5,300, while the LC-52LE925UN carries an MSRP of $4,200.
