Verizon readying for dual-mode, 1.2GHz HTC Android flagship

Verizon could have the distinction of being the first to have an Android phone with both CDMA and GSM if early details escaped today are accurate. An unnamed HTC QWERTY slider would have the option of roaming on GSM and likely 3G through at least Vodafone. The hardware seen by ADroidian would clearly be targeted at the high end with a four-inch touchscreen and what's believed to be a 1.2GHz processor, though whether it's single- or dual-core is an unknown.
The phone in question is still early and isn't thought to be shipping until early 2011. As such, beliefs that the hardware would ship with Android 2.2 may be preempted if Google posts Android 3.0 before the phone exists. The timing also raises the possibility of LTE, since Verizon's 4G network will be active by then and could have its first 4G phones at that time. Executives have been on record as mentioning HTC as one of the partners for LTE-capable smartphones.
