The existence of NVIDIA’s GeForce GT 430 was confirmed by some beta driver code weeks ago, but until now, we haven’t learned anything about the upcoming graphics card from NVIDIA. Now, an early listing from an Australian online retailer has tipped us to the specs and features of the entry-level card.

The card in question is from Gigabyte. No word on the clockspeed, but it’s carrying 1GB of DDR3 VRAM on a 128-bit memory interface. The listing shows 96 shader cores, 16 texture units and the GPU is designated a GF 108. According to website Fudzilla, this is the “OC” version, so the listing price of €73 ($101) may be a little higher than what the stock card will be. They estimate a price of €69 ($95) being the average for these cards. They also believe another version is coming with GDDR5 VRAM, instead of the DDR3.
Expect for NVIDIA to get beat in the pricing/performance category by AMD for a while. AMD’s Radeon HD 5000 series has been out for a while and they’ve got economies of scale in their favor. NVIDIA and their OEM partners will probably be in an unfortunate position, pricing/performance wise until AMD jumps to their pending Radeon HD 6000 series.
Again, NVIDIA hasn’t officially confirmed the GT 430 yet, but recent rumors on the web have tagged the card as being announced on October 19th. That’s oddly around the time that AMD is supposed to announce the Radeon HD 6000 series, so NVIDIA could be plotting to unveil the cheap GT 430 card to steal some of their thunder (though, some of us at the TFTS offices wish NVIDIA would unveil a dual-core GeForce card, al la the GTX 295. Alas, we wait.)
