Upon setting up a home theater one may look into getting a television or projector, a nice sound system and some comfortable chairs. However, said home theater would be virtually useless if there was nothing to watch in it. Luckily, in this day and age, there is no drought of content available from a plethora of different services. Sure, you can always head down to your local video rental store and grab a movie, but what fun is that?

Digital distribution is quickly becoming the preferred way to rent and buy digital content such as movies, music and even video games. Companies like Valve have long been offering video games through their Steam digital distribution platform and companies like Netflix have been holding it down on the video front. However, there’s no way for this content to mean anything to the consumer if there isn’t hardware to receive said content..
Luckily, to get down on all of Netflix’s greatest stream instantly services all you need is an Internet connected computer. However, to actually get that content out of the cloud and into your home theater is another story.
In the past we’ve told you about Google TV – a new platform from Google that will help consumers get content off of the Internet and onto their televisions. This platform allows consumers to search YouTube, link up with Netflix and even browse the web all straight from their TVs. However, seeing how Google TV is just a platform it’s going to be up to the hardware partners to get the word out.
And get the word out they shall as Logitech has just recently announced that they will be holding a special press event on October 6th to launch their brand new lineup of Google TV powered devices. Make note that Logitech has previously come forth to announce their Google TV powered Revue set-top box so it will be interesting to see what they come up with next.
Seeing how Sony has already given us word of their Google TV powered televisions, it wouldn’t be too far-fetched to assume Logitech would do something similar. Then again, seeing how they are largely a peripheral maker, a lineup of Google TV oriented remote controls and the like would seem much more fitting.
We’ll have to wait until October 6th to find out for real.
