Samsung is the world’s largest electronics company, and as such, they can afford to actively develop phones for as many mobile operating systems as they want. With Windows Phone 7 and Android phones in the works, they haven’t forgotten about their own Bada OS, and the new Wave II announced with that software looks kind of awesome.
Recent rumors have had Samsung’s OLED manufacturing capability tapped out by Apple, who allegedly has an iPhone 5 coming with an OLED screen. I really doubt that, it is weird that Samsung isn’t going with OLED for what looks like their flagship Bada phone.
Anyway, back to the Wave II, it’s coming with a 1GHZ processor, a 5MP camera with 720p recording, access to the Samsung app store. The phone has been announced for Germany and a bunch of pre-loaded German apps are being shown.
The announcement was made by Samsung Germany, and the phone is set to be sold in Germany starting November for €429 ($587). No word on it coming subsidized with any carriers. The folks at UnwiredView believe that the phone will be available in other European countries around the same time as the German launch.
The Samsung Wave II S8530 was detailed today. It’s got a 3.7-inch screen, and instead of an OLED screen (which Samsung makes), they’ve gone with a “Super LCD” screen. These “Super LCD” screens are supposed to be just as good as an OLED. Sony is a big manufacturer of these screens, and I’d be interested to know if Samsung has had to go to Sony to get screens.
