RED Scarlet Gets Infodump: HDRx Capability, Price Hike, Release Delay [A String of News Items Shake Up The RED Scarlet] Read: RED Scarlet Gets Infodump: HDRx Capability, Price Hike, Release Delay [A String of News Items Shake Up The RED Scarlet]

It may look like a prop from a science fiction movie, but the RED Scarlet is actually a camera, and a particularly potent one. But some news has emerged that’ll leave those looking forward to the Scarlet’s release very shaken, so of course I’m going to talk about them right here.

First, the good news: a superior version of HDR, HDRx, will be installed on the RED Scarlet. Word is that HDRx will help combat motion blur while filming video on the Scarlet.
But good news like this comes at a price, and that brings us to the two chunks of bad news surrounding this. One, the release date, already sketchy, has been delayed. Word is that the delay is a “slight” one, and since earlier reports put it at release by the end of the year, a slight delay would put it at early next year. And two, the price will get bumped up by a whopping grand. Some reports peg that at around $3750 with the increase. Adding that HDRx, apparently, was not cheap.
Still though, the RED Scarlet is going to be bringing a powerful camera out to market at some point in the hopefully not too distant future.
