First things first, the Fivespot is a “global ready” modem and it will be available beginning on October 7th. The price will be $99.99, though that comes after a $100 mail in rebate and along with a two year agreement.
In terms of that global coverage, according to the details given, the Fivespot will come pre-equipped with the required SIM card which means access to over 200 countries around the world. And of those 200, “more than 120″ are said to be serving up 3G speeds. Though, you will need to sign up for the GlobalAccess plan to take advantage.
With that, lets cover the available plans. The regular US based plans include options for 250MB or 5GB and are priced at $39.99 and $59.99 respectively. In addition you can also opt for prepaid and pay $15 for 100MB (for one day of use), $30 for 300MB (for one week of use), $50 for 1GB (for 30 days of use) or $80 for 5GB (for 30 days of use).
As for those GlobalAccess plans, those include 5GB of data in the US and Canada and 100MB of data in “select countries” for $129.99 per month or 5GB of data in the US and Canada and 200MB of data in “select countries” for $219.99 per month. There are also pay per use options available for those traveling, though in fairness — it is a bit more expensive. The rates must be purchased with the $59.99 mobile plan for the US and are $0.002/KB in Canada, $0.005/KB in Mexico, and $0.02/KB in more than 200 other destinations.
And since every bit of space is important in your gear bag, the Fivespot measures in at 3.92 x 2.11 x 0.55 inches and has a weight of 2.82 ounces.
Otherwise, the Fivespot has network support for CDMA 1xEV-DO Rev. A/Rev. 0: 800/1900 MHz, WCDMA/HSDPA/HSUPA: 850/1900/2100 MHz and GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz networks. The remaining features include VPN support, LED indicator lights and a one-click on/off.
